Friday vigil in Reading

Following our successful demo outside the Civic Centre in Reading on Tuesday we held a vigil for democracy and fair votes on Friday evening outside the Old Town Hall in Reading town centre.

Alas, the large crowd which had gathered nearby hadn’t come along to join us unfortunately – they were watching the police break up a fight outside a nearby pub – buty we had a fair turnout and a jolly time, with quite a bit of interest from passers-by.

The next step will probably be a public meeting about electoral reform and the need for fair votes, with the aim of establishing a broad local movement willing to campaign on the Alternative Vote referendum when it happens in around a year’s time.  Anyone got any good ideas for who we should invite along as speakers?
